The 2024 CLIC Summer Workshop will take place August 4-24, 2024. The program includes four courses:

Course 1: Academic English
This three-week course is designed to improve academic English reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities. It will particularly focus on presenting and writing for an international audience. It also offers an in-depth understanding of the system of higher education in the United States. Course 1 will take place Monday-Thursday 9am – 12m for three weeks.

Course 2: Conversational Organization: The Structure and Practice of Everyday Interaction
In this course, we will explore some of the fundamental principles that organize talk and social conduct in informal interactions among friends, family members, and colleagues. Course 2 will take place Monday-Thursday 1:30pm – 5pm, Week 1.

Course 3: Social interaction and language teaching and learning
In this course, we will focus on theoretical foundations and practices in interactional approaches to second language teaching and learning. Course 3 will take place Monday-Thursday 1:30pm – 5pm, Week 2.

Course 4: Social interaction in institutional settings
In this course, we will discuss how talk and multi-modal behavior is particular to a series of institutional settings including medical, legal, and emergency call settings. Course 4 will take place Monday-Thursday 1:30pm – 5pm, Week 3.

Participants must attend all four courses. There will also be an Opening reception on Sunday, August the 4th, and a Farewell lunch on Friday, August the 23rd.
