Preparing Your Talk

Invited Colloquium Speakers typically prepare a formal 45 to 50-minute talk. After the talk, we hold a Q&A session with the audience for approximately 30 minutes. It is part of the CLIC tradition to serve and enjoy dinner together after colloquia. Symposium and Workshop Speakers will be contacted individually regarding timing and format of events.

The UCLA Center for Language, Interaction and Culture (CLIC) is an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to the study of spontaneous social interaction in diverse cultures and contexts. The CLIC community is composed of graduate students, faculty, and visiting researchers from a wide range of academic backgrounds, including anthropology, sociology, communication studies, and linguistics. CLIC Colloquia cover a wide variety of approaches and methodologies for understanding the multiple uses of language in everyday life.

CLIC Colloquia are usually video recorded and made available to faculty and students for streaming upon request. The CLIC video repository is not publicly available. If you would not want your talk or part of your talk to be recorded (for instance, in case you are showing or discussing fragments of sensitive data), please let us know in advance or during your talk.

Finally, where relevant, speakers are invited to include audio/video data clips as part of their presentation and distribute written transcripts for the audience. Please contact the CLIC Coordinator (clic@ucla.edu) at least 48 hours prior to your presentation to request necessary copy or print jobs.
